Story Behind the Painting

This painting is of the Capitol building in Washington DC. It is such an important and grand structure, that I wanted to leave the foreground rather sparse and demote everything else leading up to it. I used complementary colors more than usual to give the building somewhat of a golden sheen against the alizarin crimson/violet hues of the landscape. When I think of Washington, I think of cherry blossoms - so emphasize the pinks.
