Story Behind the Painting

Arlington National Cemetary, although somber, is a beautiful place. The view across the Potomac to the Washington Monument and other memorials is breathtaking. In this painting I tried to capture the essence of Spring and new government hope, while reflecting on those who have previously served our country. I had assumed the flowers in the foreground were the famous Washington DC cherry blossoms, but some people have since told me that this is just a magnolia tree. Oh well - you get the idea...
