Story Behind the Painting

This original Chicago cityscape oil painting is titled "Jeweled Sky" and is 11x14". I painted this piece en plein air as a public painting demonstration at the 2011 Eastside Millennium Art Festival (see additional pictures). I finished the sketch and most of the painting on Sunday, June 5 - and later applied varnishes and hit the main building with more gold. Jeweled Sky features the famous Jeweler's Building looking up from Lake Street just East of Michigan Avenue.
